Racaire’s move to the USA – my sewing and crafting room progress .1 :D

Racaire’s move to the USA – my sewing and crafting room progressI promised my sister to post photos of my new sewing and crafting room already two days ago. And after cleaning the room, unpacking and moving in more of my books, I am finally able to fulfill my promise. Yeah, today I have some new pictures of my new sewing and crafting room for you. 😀

I am so excited! I might repeat myself but with every box I unpack and with every thing I move into my new home and especially into my new sewing and crafting room, it feels more and more like I am finally “arriving” in my new home. Even with all the smaller and bigger things which we still have to fix, it already feels like “Home, sweet Home” to me. And it gets even better with every single book I unpack and place on my new book shelves in my new sewing and crafting room.

Well, my new sewing and crafting room is still not completely finished but I really couldn’t resist to already move in most of my sewing and crafting stuff. It is really a great feeling to see all the unpacked fabrics and books in there.

I haven’t unpacked all my stuff yet. There are still 10 “banana boxes” in the garage which are filled with books and are waiting to be unpacked. But it is a great feeling to already have some of my favorite books in my new sewing and crafting room. Can you imagine it – I just unpacked some of my books and I am already running out of book space. *lol*

Yes, I admit it – I am a book nerd and book gatherer! Especially when the books are about old embroidery techniques, medieval textiles, crafting, medieval museum exhibitions or medieval art. I really gathered a lot of them and definitely need more book shelves! 🙂

And now back to my new sewing and crafting room and the promised photos – enjoy! 😀

Above you can see how my new sewing and crafting room looks like now, when you look into it from the hallway. We made a lot of room by moving out some of the old furniture. There is still one rather big piece we want to move out (the one you can partly see on the right) but at the moment the rest of the house is so stuffed that there is absolutely no way to do it. *lol*

And in the back corner you can see an old drawer that I already started to refurbish. It is still not finished yet but I hope to finish it soon. We have to get some wood for the sides and also shelf boards that I can finish and use it. Oh, I really can’t wait to use this one too. 😀

Do you remember the door top I painted and showed you in my last posting? Underneath another look at the same wall and door on the left side of the room. The two piles of green plastic bags at the bottom on the right side contain my collection of mostly German vintage magazines from about 1900 – 1960 – they are all still wrapped in plastic. As soon as I find some space for them I will unwrap them too. I think it might be a good idea to get some nice storage boxes for them. 🙂

And as you can see at the left side, I already unpacked most of my SCA garb (clothing). Unfortunately I have to wait until my sweetheart adapts the closet by putting up the bar so that I can hang my dresses. They are far too long for the bar inside my new closet. But he already spoke about making me a nice big portable clothing rack – I think he wants to continue using this closet for himself… 😉

And a sneak peek into one of the drawers of the dresser on the right for you:

You can see that I already moved in some of my crafting materials and tools – from left to right: my silk thread from the Silk Mill (still packed and untouched like on the very first day  when I got them), underneath my collection of “Basic” cotton threads from Lana Grossa, then “side parts” of my rolling frames for embroidery as well as some other embroidery frame parts in the middle and finally my collection of modern and vintage laces. Yes, well, I think I am a collector of crafting stuff too but I think that’s part of our hobby, isn’t it. *giggle* 😉

And now to all my fabrics and the already unpacked books – welcome to the wall on the right. 😀

Yes, I know, it looks still very chaotic and I am surely not the last time shifting and rearranging stuff but this should work for some time. 🙂

The already unwrapped fabric which you can see on the top and bottom of the shelf belongs to my sweetheart or was a gift from Gloria, my dear mother-in-law. 🙂

I didn’t have any time yet to unpack my fabric. But well, that’s not a bad thing because I already started thinking about to just leave the fabric in the bags until I really want to use it. About 60% of my fabric – mostly the fabric at the bottom shelf – is wool fabric in different colors and qualities. The other part of my fabric is mostly linen or linen-cotton blend fabric.

And, last but not least, you can also see some round embroidery frames and the great new tablet weaving loom my sister Martina gave me. 🙂

Books, Books, Books! …and another small project of mine which I recently completed. I decided to refurbish this old but still rather cute shelf a little – sanded it, painted it purple and finally decided to leave away the bottom doors for now (or until I change my mind and have a nice idea for a painting on the front). And to just move in with my books. *lol*

I hope to add more book shelves to it soon but till then it has to work as it is. The bottom left and middle part is mostly filled with books about calligraphy and illumination. The bottom right part is filled with several books about knights, church treasures,…
The part in the middle contains my embroidery, textile and costuming books and the books on top of it are mostly about art history and special medieval dynasties or persons.

And last but not least I would like to show you my “new baby”. 😀

Because of my move from Europe to the states I gave away my sewing machines to good friends before I moved. I guess you can imagine how happy I was when I found this nice old “White” sewing machine via the Fort Campbell bookoo page for an affordable price.
She has no name yet but I think she looks like a “Lisa” – we will see if I can remember this name tomorrow… 😉

I hope you like the progress of my new sewing and crafting room – I already love it!
I just need to add a nice table and a chair and voila… Yes, small goals by now but every small thing counts and I am very looking forward to using this room soon – for sewing and crafting… 🙂

Best regards Racaire
