Sneak peek at my next embroidery project – a 14th century inspired pattern worked in surface couching .9

    2015/08/05

Yesterday, after a weekend filled with fishing and hanging out with some of our good friends, I finally got back to work at two of my embroidery projects again. First I managed to flatten the seams and also the rest of the fabric of the 14th century XL hood. And I also ironed the lovely purple wool fabric which I got for the appliqué embroidery.

Medieval embroidery techniques – my new Surface Couching technique handout

    2015/07/31

Do you remember the sneak peek at my new technical tutorial for Surface Couching? Well, then I have some great news for you – the waiting time has paid off and my new Surface Couching technique handout is finally finished! 😀 It took a while to find some good pictures of extant examples of the basic Surface Couching embroidery technique which I cover in this handout. And it took even more time to put the whole handout together but it was totally worth it! I am mighty proud of my new handout. And as there are several different variations of Surface Couching, you maybe might even look forward to more handouts about this technique in the future.…

    2015/07/30

Finally it seems like working at this 14th century inspired Surface Couching embroidery project became a nice treat for me. 😀 Whenever I am too tired and just want to work at something “simple” or when I want to consider the next step for the 14th century XL hood project for my friends Pelican elevation, I pick up my embroidery frame and do some more stitches…

In my last posting I already showed you a sneak peek at my technical drawing for my next surface couching tutorial. But this was not the only project I was working on during the last days. All of my so-called “free time” was actually filled with drawing as well as a lot of hand-sewing and surface couching embroidery.

I have great news for all of you who enjoy my technical tutorials of medieval embroidery techniques! It took several days to work out the very detailed technical drawing for my new medieval technique tutorial about Surface Couching but I finally managed to finish it. 😀 Though the Surface Couching technique tutorial isn’t finished by now, I just couldn’t resist to show you a glimpse at the technical drawing I worked out for you.

My 14th century XL hood sample – playing with my new gold threads :)

    2015/07/17

Just as I finished sewing my 14th century XL hood sample I received a wonderful gift from my mommy Sandra in the mail: awesome silver and gold threads! Well, you can imagine what that means – play time and a lot fun for me! There was absolutely no doubt that I had to try out this lovely threads immediately so I could report back about the threads to my mom.

Sneak peek at my next embroidery project – a 14th century inspired pattern worked in surface couching .6

    2015/07/08

*Gosh* I think I started too many embroidery projects! But unfortunately there is just not enough time to work at them all! At least not at the same time… 😉 Yes, I really wish I could duplicate myself or at least grow an extra set or arms but I doubt that this will happen anytime soon… But well, who doesn’t know this problem… *lol* Ok, enough self pity for now. I anyway don’t have the time to complain about too many embroidery projects and well, if I complained, who would actually believe me? *lol* You all know that I love embroidery far too much to not enjoy my dilemma. But – *sigh* – there are so many of them…

…and finally, after adding another endless amount of small stitches, I am very happy to announce that I just finished the main framework embroidery of my 14th century inspired pattern. *happydance* Well, I guess it’s kinda obvious and I admit it – working at the details is so much more fun than working at the basic pattern. But a good medieval embroidery needs a good basic framework… 🙂

Sneak peek at my next embroidery project – a 14th century inspired pattern worked in surface couching .4 & some thoughts about medieval patterns

    2015/06/29

I had a quite busy weekend – hanging out with friends, first time at the drive-in cinema in Franklin (KY), visiting family and even drafting an XXL hood pattern for a friend as well as already cutting the fabric for a sample hood to test the new pattern… But I still managed to make some very good progress concerning my “14th century inspired pattern worked in surface couching” project. 😀

Gosh! You won’t imagine how busy I was during the last days. Besides the usual house chores I also got to prime and paint my kitchen walls white, secured the tomato plants in my garden in order to resist the next severe thunder storm here in Kentucky as well as some further garden work, baked some bread and even found several hours per day to work at my new 14th century inspired surface couching project. 😀

  • positive review  I ordered an octopus printed bag on October 27th. By the next day, the bag was finished, packaged up, and shipped to me. It arrived today, October 31st. Included in the package was a hand-written note detailing how to clean the bag as-needed, and a few extra small pieces of stamped fabric. The seller was very responsive to questions, and gave me some great tips as I'm going to start getting into doing fabric painting myself. I would definitely recommend purchasing from Racaire's Workshop.

I received my most recent order today and I just had to come on here to say that getting an order from this shop is second to none - it’s like Christmas every time. Racaire puts a ton of extra care into every order - each item is wrapped like a present, carefully folded, tied with ribbon, and includes care instructions. Getting to unwrap each item is such a joy. Beyond that, the work is spectacular, looks good, and wears well. You can wash and rewash and the prints look as good or better than they did on day one. I would give Racaire 10/10 stars every time.

I’ve admired Racaire’s work for months and recently had a chance to purchase one of her scarves. So delighted with my purchase! The phoenix print on the scarf is so crisp and such a lovely, unique design. The fabric is soft and just the right color to complement the design. Shipping was swift, communication was excellent, and I just really enjoy wearing something that has so much creativity poured into it. I look forward to shopping from Racaire’s Workshop again!

positive review  Racaire makes beautiful and period pieces from A-Z! My little family proudly owns three of her bags, which are extremely durable and gorgeous! My daughter (5 years old) even has her own sized bag! They go to every event with us and often I use mine as my purse in mundane life. Racaire will only make and sell items which will stand the test of time and is extremely detailed in everything she does. I recommend 10/10!

positive review  Racaire makes wonderful things, she even takes on the Herculean task of dressing ME up pretty and makes it look easy. Anyone who has seen me at an event the past three or four years has seen her work. Not only is it beautifully made, it's durable enough to wear for heavy combat! Win-win!
