Sneak peek at my next embroidery project – a 14th century inspired pattern worked in surface couching .2

    2015/06/18

And finally, after mounting my embroidery frame and putting the pattern PDF together for you, I found some time to work at my new embroidery project – a 14th century inspired pattern worked in surface couching. I haven’t done fine surface couching like this for quite some time but it seems like I didn’t pause at all – the stitches come so easily to me. Well, yes, this technique is in truth a very simple one…

Sneak peek at my next embroidery project – a 14th century inspired pattern worked in surface couching .1

    2015/06/13

After my last posting about my recent keyhole neckline progress for my 12th century wedding dress, I sat down and worked at the final drawing of the “14th century inspired pattern for my next surface couching embroidery project“. It took some hours but I just managed to put the 14th century inspired pattern down on paper. And what shall I say, I looks really great and was definitely worth the effort. 🙂

14th century inspired Klosterstich rose embroidery – now a lid for a reliquary box!

    2015/06/08

It took a little but I finally managed to turn my 14th century inspired Klosterstich rose embroidery into a cute lid for a reliquary box. 🙂 Well, not that the rest of the box is finished yet but I consider a lid a very good beginning. At the moment I am anyway not quite sure if I want to create an embroidery for the sides of the box too. A plain silk cover for the side part seems like a very appealing idea at the moment. But… Well, you know me…

14th century inspired Klosterstich rose – turning a medieval inspired embroidery into a lid for a reliquary box .3 – working at the border embellishment

    2015/06/08

And today I will show you how I added the border embellishment to the lid of my reliquary box with the 14th century inspired Klosterstich embroidery. 🙂 So far we had several postings showing the progress of the 14th century inspired Klosterstich rose embroidery, one posting about how I mounted the Klosterstich embroidery on the base for the reliquary lid and also one posting of how I added the silk to the backside of the lid…

14th century inspired Klosterstich rose – turning a medieval inspired embroidery into a lid for a reliquary box .1

    2015/05/23

I already prepared my rolling frame for a new medieval inspired embroidery project. But before I tell you more about my new project, I would like to show you the small side project at which I was working during the last days… 🙂 You might remember the 14th century inspired Klosterstich rose embroidery which I  recently finished. I started this small project in order to take pictures for my “Klosterstich hands on tutorial” which you can find here: – “…Part 1 – how to start your Klosterstich embroidery“ – “…Part 2 – how I do my Klosterstich embroidery”

Surface couching embroidery – how I made the 12th century Agincourt Heart for Bella’s elevation garment

    2015/05/06

I will be very busy and away from my computer for the next days, therefore I thought that you might enjoy some of the progress pictures which I took while I was working at the 12th century Agincourt heart for Bella’s elevation garment. As some of you might have already noticed, I am very keen on medieval and especially 12th century surface couching embroidery. And today’s progress pictures will give you a nice glimpse at the “2:1 surface couching” embroidery technique which I used for Bella’s 12th century Agincourt heart.

And finally, after all the progress pictures of my 14th century French pouch project, I can present the finished pouch to you today! 😀 Yes, it took a while but as a German saying says, all good things in life take time. And well, medieval hand embroidery is really not a fast craft. *giggle*

FAQ – books on medieval embroidery .1

    2015/04/20

From time to time friends ask me which books on medieval embroidery I recommend. And normally my reaction is an immediate question in return: “What are you looking for in particular…?” *lol* Extant medieval embroidery pieces provide us with a great variety of medieval embroidery techniques. And though there are not as many books on medieval embroidery available as I would like, there are still enough different books available. Therefore it’s sometimes rather difficult and time consuming to find the right book if you are looking for something in particular.

Klosterstich hands on tutorial – part 2 – how I do my Klosterstich embroidery :)

    2015/03/29

I know, as nice as my 12th century wedding dress project might be, if you are reading my blog there is a good chance that we share the love for “early” medieval embroidery like Klosterstich, Bayeux Stitch,… Therefore I decided to “pick up the thread” of the Klosterstich tutorial again which I recently started and to make up or the recent lack of postings about medieval and medieval inspired embroidery. 😀 Some of you might remember my posting “Klosterstich hands on tutorial – part 1 – how to start your Klosterstich embroidery“. Since I posted the first part I of this tutorial, I spent so much time thinking about the second part that I actually thought I already posted it. But…

14th century inspired Klosterstich rose embroidery finished :)

    2015/03/11

And finally I found the time to finish the 14th century inspired Klosterstich rose embroidery which I started last year. Yes, I admit it, I neglected this small project a little and worked on several other more urgent projects in the meantime. But after my husbands heart attack last week, I really needed a nice embroidery project to ease my mind. I think everyone of us has something special that can provide a certain peace of mind. In some cases it is chocolate, some prefer to snack on nuts or have a nice glass of beer or wine, others start cleaning their home,… and well, I prefer to work at my embroidery projects. Well, not…

positive review  She was amazing to work with, flexible to my needs, answered all of my questions, and has been just incredible. Not only is she talented and interesting but is a genuinely kind person. I got a new bag with my heraldry, for which I have received many compliments, and block stamps for my household. I will commission from her again.

positive review  I'm blown away by the block printing on the scarf I received. The colors are vibrant, the fabric is soft, and the pattern matching is perfection. Racaire was quick to respond, and updated me along the way. My scarf was packaged beautifully, and I felt like I was opening a present. 100% will order again. ❤

positive review  I commissioned a hand carved stamp for my husband's knighting ceremony clothes. Not only is it gorgeous, but I was given SO MUCH information on sources and instructional information on block printing. I now feel relatively confident I can do this. Perfection.

....and a little fun project for myself again...You probably know the problem - you find an absolutely sweet little dress but it just doesn't fit right - it is too short, the sleeves restrict movement,....Well, seems I finally found a good use for some of my vintage lace to add a cute border to the dress appropriate for my height and I slit the top of the short sleeve so I can actually raise my arms...Well, it will do now! I love it!
