Ok, first we started with some embroidery and embroidered a nice “stripe” of fabric using a medieval embroidery technique – “German Brick Stitch” for our very first “Craft with Racaire” project – a small embroidered needle-roll. …and yesterday I showed you in my detailed photo tutorial how to assemble the needle-roll. Today I put together another very detailed photo tutorial for you. In this photo tutorial I will show you a nice medieval (or like some people like to call it: “period”) technique for the seam treatment at the borders.

Recently I was speaking about a pouch project with a customer who wanted to complete his 14th century kit with an embroidered pouch made by me. Great news! I just finished my Craft with Racaire – Project #1 – needle-roll #1. …and I took more than plenty pictures for some nice tutorials for you. Pictures like the ones of how I assembled the needle-roll and how I made this small tassels. Embroidery comes rather naturally to me but I learned during my last 9 years of blogging, holding classes at SCA events and explaining techniques to friends that unfortunately not everyone is also as fortunate. Craft with Racaire – Needle-roll #1
Before I “restarted” my new blog, I told a friend of mine that I have many possible projects I could start with for my new section “Craft with Racaire”. I told her that I could start with a German Brick Stitch needle-roll, a Klosterstich needle-book, a 12th century fillet, a Reliquary box with bead embroidery based on a rather rare 13th century Pearl Ciborium or based on a period extant piece, another pull-over dress/underdress with revisiting my last recent pattern, a tight fitted bliaut, a linen veil with a period bird pattern, the “We have Dragons” project, a pouch, a hood with daggings,… – just to name a few possibilities.…

Medieval Embroidery – German Brick Stitch – helpful sources & embroidery for needle-roll #1
As you already might have noticed, I really love medieval embroidery. …and I decided that after all this postings it is finally time for some embroidery done by me. German Brick Stitch seemed like a good technique to start with. Especially because this stitch looks very pretty on needle-rolls & pouches.
