…some nailbinding again – my finished nailbinded and embroidered hat :D

    2018/03/23

My nailbinded and embroidered hat is finally finished! *happydance* And you can tell that it is my absolute favorite as I am wearing my new nailbinded and embroidered hat nearly every day for several hours. 😀 And before you ask – no, my sweetheart doesn’t object to it as he knows that I am always at least a little bit cold. Everyone who has met me during cold weather can tell that staying warm is definitely one of the main objectives of my life. But that’s not only because the cold makes me feel uncomfortable. No, it’s far more than that. Being cold is normally followed by being ill and…

…my medieval islamic inspired embroidery project – the embroidery .1

    2017/09/13

Yes, I know, I was quite silent recently. But I had a very good reason for my break as I’ve been working like crazy on a fitted 12th century silk bliaut (dress) for the future Queen of the Kingdom of Meridies. …and like always – when it comes to special projects like these – the time frame for completion is very limited. The bliaut has to be finished before the upcoming coronation event – preferably sooner than later. However, you find me relatively relaxed as I already made some great progress. Her silk underdress is already finished as well as a good part of the bliaut. I am quite optimistic that…

My new black 12th century fillet with white silk embroidery! :D

    2016/10/16

Gloria, my dear mother-in-law, took a lovely selfie of us both at the most recent SCA event – Coronation. This cute selfie allows me to finally show you my most recent 12th century project “in use”: My new black 12th century fillet with white silk embroidery! 😀 How come? Well, after completing my new grey/black 12th century dress, I longed for a slightly different 12th century headgear than my ‘normal’ red silk fillet with pearl embroidery. And as the making of a new fillet does not take very long, I decided to simply make a fillet that matched at least one of the colors of my new dress…

12th century tunic for my husband – how I made the counterpart for the 12th century neckline fastening and some other details…

    2016/07/05

Todays posting about “how I made the counterpart for the 12th century neckline fastening and some other details…” brings us finally to the last progress pictures of the 12th century grey light-wool tunic project for my husband. Though I already showed you my period inspiration for this quite special 12th century neckline shape and how my take on this special neckline form based on the 12th century neckline inspiration looks like, it seems like I neglected a quite important detail till now: the period inspired fastening and its counterpart…

White 14th century hood for a friends Pelican elevation – finished! :D

    2015/10/29

And after all my recent postings about the progress of my friends 14th century hood with pelican & knighthood embroidery, I can finally present to you the finished 14th century hood! The picture at the left was taken shortly after my friend – Sir Thomas Blackmoore (sorry but I don’t remember all the other proper SCA titles he has) –  was elevated to the Order of the Pelican.

White 14th century XL hood for a friends Pelican elevation – embroidery .4 – how I created the embroidered Pelican patches .1

    2015/10/19

In my last posting about the “white 14th century XL hood for a friends Pelican elevation – how I created the embroidered Pelican patches” I wrote about the different steps of how I prepared the basic pelican appliqué. Furthermore I also showed you several progress pictures of my embroidery work concerning this first steps. And today we take a close look at the very next step – of how I embroidered the two different kinds of golden beaks for the pelicans.

White 14th century XL hood for a friends Pelican elevation – embroidery .4 – how I created the embroidered Pelican patches

    2015/10/15

With this posting, after all the previous postings about the 14th century XL hood project for my friends Pelican elevation, I am finally reaching the last and major part of the embroidery for this hood project: …the pelican patches! In my last posting I already showed you the finished knight belt patches for the 14th century hood for my friends Pelican elevation. And as nice as the knight belt patches already looked like at this stage of the project, they all still looked quite empty, didn’t they – but no for long, that’s for sure… 😀

14th century inspired Klosterstich rose embroidery finished :)

    2015/03/11

And finally I found the time to finish the 14th century inspired Klosterstich rose embroidery which I started last year. Yes, I admit it, I neglected this small project a little and worked on several other more urgent projects in the meantime. But after my husbands heart attack last week, I really needed a nice embroidery project to ease my mind. I think everyone of us has something special that can provide a certain peace of mind. In some cases it is chocolate, some prefer to snack on nuts or have a nice glass of beer or wine, others start cleaning their home,… and well, I prefer to work at my embroidery projects. Well, not…

Modern Nailbinding / Nadelbinden – a new project and old projects revisited :)

    2014/11/07

On my birthday I decided to have some fun and to do something I haven’t done for quite a long time. Therefore I took one of my nailbinding needles and had some fun with turning some wool into a new cap… 🙂 I always find it very relaxing when I am working at a nailbinding project. Some of you might not be familiar with this great technique by now but nailbinding is an ancient technique which is much older than crotchet or knitting. It is an interesting technique that is worth at least a try. Well, however, that this is an old technique doesn’t mean that we can’t give it a modern…

Another needle book with Klosterstich embroidery .4

    2014/09/10

…and besides all the work at the house, I managed to finish another needle book with Klosterstich embroidery for my Travel & Largesse Fund. 🙂 Already for several days now I am busy working at my very first own sewing & crafting room as well as the adjacent rooms. Though it seems to take forever, it somehow pleases me to see the progress. It feels like the house is becoming more and more my/our home. 🙂

  • I've been following the shop for a while, trying to decide what I would have commissioned. Instead I fell in love with and impulse-bought a gorgeous dragonfly scarf that will be perfect for one of my Ren Faire costumes. It arrived quickly and lovingly packaged, and it's even better than I could imagine! You can tell it was made with love and with soul. I'm already excited about my next purchase and I don't even know what it is yet!

had the lovely experience of wandering into this pop-up shop at an EMP event. not only is the seller one of the absolute sweetest people (and extremely historically knowledgeable!) but her items are also all extremely high quality and more than worth the cost. i bought two coifs and was very pleased with how comfortable they were while also remaining steadfast on my head without needing any sort of pins.
