12th century dress for the “12th century wedding clothing project” – sneak peek .3 – working at the keyhole neckline

    2015/03/13

And even more progress concerning my 12th century dress today! I think I can say that I am a rather busy hand sewing “bee” at the moment. 😉 After I finished my 14th century inspired Klosterstich rose embroidery two days ago, I already started working at my 12th century dress again. And during the last two days I was able to make some great progress which I can show you now. 🙂 As you know from my latest posting about my 12th century dress project, I finished the main hand sewing of my dress last week. And yesterday I was able to start adding the first embellishment to my dress.

12th century dress for the “12th century wedding clothing project” – sneak peek .2

    2015/03/04

Yesterday, after pinning my long sleeves to my 12th century dress, I really had to be patient. My sweetheart was still at work and the amount of needles I used to pin the sleeves to my 12th century dress was quite intimidating – even for me. Well, sure, it would have been possible to put on the dress just by myself and I have done it before. But when I looked at all the needles, I decided that it was definitely much easier and much more painless to put on the dress with the help of my husband.

12th century dress for the “12th century wedding clothing project” – sneak peek .1

    2015/03/02

I used the last days very well by doing a lot of hand sewing and am glad to say that I made a great progress concerning my 12th century dress so far. There is still a lot to do before my 12th century dress is finished but with every day that goes by it seems that I am getting much closer to completing it. This feeling really gives me the power I need to continue after all the hand sewing I have already done till now.

12th century dress for the “12th century wedding clothing project” – sneak peek

    2015/02/24

The recent weekend my sister Noel kidnapped me and I enjoyed some very nice sewing free days with her and other friends at the local Concave convention. But now I am back again and busy working at my 12th century dress for my 12th century wedding clothing project. 😀 It feels like I have done an endless amount of stitches till now but I enjoy seeing more and more of my new 12th century dress getting finished. There are still many stitches left until the dress is finished but with every stitch I make the dress looks more and more complete. Yes, it finally starts looking more like a 12th century dress and less like…

12th century tunic for the “12th century wedding clothing project”

    2015/02/19

During the last days I was very busy working at the 12th century tunic for my husbands 12th century wedding clothing. And today I have great news for you – all the hand-sewing is done! The 12th century tunic is finished and the blue and yellow silk I used for it looks awesome! *happydance* 😀 Though there is not much time left until our 12th century wedding ceremony Gulf Wars and I am working like a maniac to finish all the 12th century wedding clothing I have on my list, I really couldn’t resist to add at least a little bit of embroidery to his 12th century tunic. Well, you know, when…

13th century under tunic for the “12th century wedding clothing project” finished

    2015/02/12

Finally I can declare the 13th century under tunic project for my sweethearts 12th century wedding clothing project finished. And the expression on my husbands face every time he wears his new hand sewn 13th century under tunic assures me that this project is a great success. 😀 The construction of the 13th century under tunic pattern was a rather long process but I really learned a lot concerning the differences between male and female clothing while working at this project. Especially because I never (hand) sewed a period male garment like this before. It took several alterations to the measurements – especially of the body part – but it was totally worth…

male 13th century tunic for the “12th century wedding clothing project” .2 – hand-sewing finished :D

    2015/01/13

Many tiny stitches were made since my last posting about the 13th century tunic. And now I am happily declaring an end concerning the hand-sewing part of this project. Wooohoooo! 😀 Though I already have finished much longer dress hemlines for my own hand-sewn 12th century dresses before, the bottom hemline seemed to be an endless undertaking. But finally I was able to conquer this rather long seam. And after finishing this bottom hemline the sleeve ends and the neckline were as delightful as a nice walk in the park on a lovely spring day… *giggle*

And today I have some new progress pictures for you of the 13th century tunic for my sweethearts 12th century wedding clothing project. 😀 I am very glad to say that I already finished the major part of the hand-sewing for the 13th century tunic. There is still some hand-sewing left but the sleeves and the side gores are attached to the main body part now. All the main seams are properly finished and show no raw edges anymore. Woohooo! 🙂

Posting #200 since I restarted my blog… Some thoughts about the past, the presence and future…

    2014/12/09

When I recently took a look at the stats of my blog, I nearly couldn’t believe it. I was just some postings away from another lovely round number of postings. And with today’s posting I finally get to complete my round number. Can you believe it?  With this posting I posted 200 postings since I “restarted” my blog at Valentine’s day this year. Well, blogging for already more than 10 years and after far more than 200 postings, it shouldn’t have been difficult for me to write another one. But somehow this round number caused me to take a short break and to examine the past, the presence and the future.

My very first fitted medieval stockings – my first women’s hose – more pictures :D

    2014/11/25

Tight fitted medieval stockings are really a great thing. They are not only awesome to wear but they also look great. And well, I am still not done with posting about them… 😉 Some of you might be aware of the fact that our female ancestors not only fought for the right to vote but also fought very hard and over several centuries for the right to wear trousers or short skirts as well as other things which are clothing related. Therefore we are now able to chose freely what we want to wear at a daily basis. Yes, we are living nowadays in a time when nearly every woman has the right to “expose”…

  • positive review  I commissioned a hand carved stamp for my husband's knighting ceremony clothes. Not only is it gorgeous, but I was given SO MUCH information on sources and instructional information on block printing. I now feel relatively confident I can do this. Perfection.

positive review  Racaire makes wonderful things, she even takes on the Herculean task of dressing ME up pretty and makes it look easy. Anyone who has seen me at an event the past three or four years has seen her work. Not only is it beautifully made, it's durable enough to wear for heavy combat! Win-win!

positive review  I have admired Racaire’s Workshop for a while. The examples of period style and the detail put into the finished work always looks great. I ordered some linen coifs for my kit and was asked important question that made my experience a good one. Besides size, color and intended use. I am happy with my purchase.
