male 13th century tunic for the “12th century wedding clothing project” .8 – neckline embroidery finished :D

    2015/02/03

Wooohooo! During the last days I added many more embroidery stitches and finished the neckline embroidery for my sweethearts 13th century tunic. *happydance* 😀 Though the embroidery is very simple and rather basic due to the little time I have left for the whole “12th century wedding clothing project”, it adds a nice effect and a lovely golden sparkle around the neckline opening.

male 13th century tunic for the “12th century wedding clothing project” .7 – more sleeve embroidery – embroidered bears & comets :D

    2015/01/31

Since the last posting concerning the sleeve embroidery for the 13th century tunic, I spent even more hours busy working at my husbands 13th century under tunic. And I am very glad to say that I made great progress concerning the embroidery. 😀 I added two embroidered bears and comets to the sleeves. The bears stand for the “Legion of the Bear“/”Legio Ursi”  SCA award and the comets for the Argent Comet” SCA award.

male 13th century tunic for the “12th century wedding clothing project” .6 – more sleeve embroidery – embroidered shells & shields :D

    2015/01/30

And after a lot of hard work during the last days, I managed to make even more progress concerning the sleeve embroidery for the 13th century tunic for my sweetheart – today I have embroidered shells and shields for you. 😀 Yes, two shells and two shields already fill the first four roundels. That leaves just four more empty roundels which need to be filled – two on every sleeve. The embroidered shells stand for my husbands SCA “Compostella” award and the embroidered shields for his “Argent Shield“. I am going to add two bears for the “Legion of the Bear“/”Legio Ursi” and two comets for his “Argent Comet” next – this…

male 13th century tunic for the “12th century wedding clothing project” .5 – sneak peek at the sleeve embroidery :D

    2015/01/23

During the last days I was very busy working at the sleeve embroidery for the 13th century under tunic for my sweetheart. And it totally payed off –  the embroidery of the major pattern on both sleeves is already finished and ready to be filled. Wooohooo! 😀 I am very happy with the rather fast progress and the overall look of the sleeve embroidery so far. Yes, I admit it, I really like the sparkle of this golden thread on the white linen though I still prefer silver over gold for myself. But well, my sweetheart prefers gold…

male 13th century tunic for the “12th century wedding clothing project” .4 – sneak peek at the sleeve embroidery :D

    2015/01/20

After posting the very first sneak peek of the sleeve embroidery for my husbands 13th century tunic, I spent several hours busy working at the embroidery. I am very glad to say that I already have a new sneak peek picture for you that will give you a much better idea of the sleeve embroidery design I am going for. 🙂 The progress is slow but steady. It took me nearly two days but I was able to accomplish the major design at the very first sleeve.

male 13th century tunic for the “12th century wedding clothing project” .3 – sleeve embroidery started :D

    2015/01/19

Already some days ago, after finishing the hand sewing, I started working at the sleeve embroidery for the 13th century under tunic for my sweetheart. And today I have some sneak peeks at the very first sleeve embroidery progress for you. 😀 Every new embroidery project is like a small journey and requires some inspiration, planning and many decisions. It took quite a while to go through my nice and very versatile thread collection. But as you can imagine, it took even longer to go through all the pictures of 12th century male garments on my computer.

male 13th century tunic for the “12th century wedding clothing project” .2 – hand-sewing finished :D

    2015/01/13

Many tiny stitches were made since my last posting about the 13th century tunic. And now I am happily declaring an end concerning the hand-sewing part of this project. Wooohoooo! 😀 Though I already have finished much longer dress hemlines for my own hand-sewn 12th century dresses before, the bottom hemline seemed to be an endless undertaking. But finally I was able to conquer this rather long seam. And after finishing this bottom hemline the sleeve ends and the neckline were as delightful as a nice walk in the park on a lovely spring day… *giggle*

And today I have some new progress pictures for you of the 13th century tunic for my sweethearts 12th century wedding clothing project. 😀 I am very glad to say that I already finished the major part of the hand-sewing for the 13th century tunic. There is still some hand-sewing left but the sleeves and the side gores are attached to the main body part now. All the main seams are properly finished and show no raw edges anymore. Woohooo! 🙂

Starting a new project – male 13th century tunic for the “12th century wedding clothing project”

    2015/01/03

Today I have a new project for you – my very first 13th century male under-tunic project for my 12th century wedding clothing project. 😀 I already started this 13th century male under-tunic project several days ago. You can find a very first sneak peek at the tunic project in my recent “posting #200 since I restarted my blog…“. Since this posting I have spent several hours working at the tunic. Though the rather thick linen fabric was rather reluctant to be hand-sewn, I just managed to finish the major seams of the tunic. 🙂

Posting #200 since I restarted my blog… Some thoughts about the past, the presence and future…

    2014/12/09

When I recently took a look at the stats of my blog, I nearly couldn’t believe it. I was just some postings away from another lovely round number of postings. And with today’s posting I finally get to complete my round number. Can you believe it?  With this posting I posted 200 postings since I “restarted” my blog at Valentine’s day this year. Well, blogging for already more than 10 years and after far more than 200 postings, it shouldn’t have been difficult for me to write another one. But somehow this round number caused me to take a short break and to examine the past, the presence and the future.

  • positive review  I ordered an octopus printed bag on October 27th. By the next day, the bag was finished, packaged up, and shipped to me. It arrived today, October 31st. Included in the package was a hand-written note detailing how to clean the bag as-needed, and a few extra small pieces of stamped fabric. The seller was very responsive to questions, and gave me some great tips as I'm going to start getting into doing fabric painting myself. I would definitely recommend purchasing from Racaire's Workshop.

positive review  I have followed Racaire's work for a decade. She is a true artist, and absolute magic with a needle! Her block printed fabrics are gobsmackingly gorgeous, with historically appropriate designs, and her embroidery and textile arts are without peer. Her historical research is spot on which is something this history geek truly appreciates. I recommend her work heartily! (and she's an awfully nice person to boot!)

I’ve admired Racaire’s work for months and recently had a chance to purchase one of her scarves. So delighted with my purchase! The phoenix print on the scarf is so crisp and such a lovely, unique design. The fabric is soft and just the right color to complement the design. Shipping was swift, communication was excellent, and I just really enjoy wearing something that has so much creativity poured into it. I look forward to shopping from Racaire’s Workshop again!

  • positive review  Racaire's work is thoughtful, beautiful, historic and absolutely well made! There is care and pride in everything that comes out of her workshop, a craftmanship that you just don't get from mainstream markets! I have several items done by her hand and I am continually asked about them and who made them. Racaire's quality and artistic beauty shines through everytime.

I purchased a printed scarf, and Racaire was able to help me with international shipping (via messenger). The item arrived quickly, exactly as promised, and beautifully wrapped. And as a bonus, Racaire is a lovely person. I recommend Racaire and hope to make future purchases soon!
