White 14th century XL hood for a friends Pelican elevation – working at the embroidery – appliqué work part .1

    2015/08/17

It seems like time flies at the moment. The due date for the white 14th century XL hood project for a friend of mine moves closer and closer. But there is no cause for worry yet. I did put the last days to very good use and was therefore able to achieve a lot of progress. 🙂 After completing the work at the main pattern framework of my 14th century pattern project worked in Surface Couching, I immediately continued with the work at the white 14th century XL hood for my friends Pelican elevation.

14th century inspired pattern worked in surface couching .10 – main pattern framework finished

    2015/08/11

And finally, after all the recent postings about my progress, I am glad to say that I just managed to finish the main framework pattern of my 14th century inspired pattern worked in surface couching! 😀 But I wasn’t embroidering all the time – actually, after all the countless hours which I spent working at my current projects last week, I took a brake from my embroidery projects this weekend.

Sneak peek at my next embroidery project – a 14th century inspired pattern worked in surface couching .9

    2015/08/05

Yesterday, after a weekend filled with fishing and hanging out with some of our good friends, I finally got back to work at two of my embroidery projects again. First I managed to flatten the seams and also the rest of the fabric of the 14th century XL hood. And I also ironed the lovely purple wool fabric which I got for the appliqué embroidery.

Finally it seems like working at this 14th century inspired Surface Couching embroidery project became a nice treat for me. 😀 Whenever I am too tired and just want to work at something “simple” or when I want to consider the next step for the 14th century XL hood project for my friends Pelican elevation, I pick up my embroidery frame and do some more stitches…

My new project – a white 14th century XL hood for a friends Pelican elevation – the hand-sewing is finally finished! :D

    2015/07/29

After all the successful previous preparation for this project (like drafting an XL pattern and creating a 14th century XL hood sample), I finally started working at the actual project some days ago: A white 14th century XL hood for my friends Pelican elevation. 🙂 But first a short explanation for all readers who are not familiar with the SCA: Whenever a member of the SCA shows great passion in “service” to the society, excels in the “arts & sciences” (like woodwork, embroidery, teaching about his/her craft,…) or shows great skill in fighting (“Heavy Fighting”, fencing,…) and some people who observe this commitment report it to The Royal Majesties of their kingdom (normally…

In my last posting I already showed you a sneak peek at my technical drawing for my next surface couching tutorial. But this was not the only project I was working on during the last days. All of my so-called “free time” was actually filled with drawing as well as a lot of hand-sewing and surface couching embroidery.

Medieval embroidery techniques – sneak peek at my new technical tutorial for Surface Couching :)

    2015/07/22

I have great news for all of you who enjoy my technical tutorials of medieval embroidery techniques! It took several days to work out the very detailed technical drawing for my new medieval technique tutorial about Surface Couching but I finally managed to finish it. 😀 Though the Surface Couching technique tutorial isn’t finished by now, I just couldn’t resist to show you a glimpse at the technical drawing I worked out for you.

My 14th century XL hood sample – playing with my new gold threads :)

    2015/07/17

Just as I finished sewing my 14th century XL hood sample I received a wonderful gift from my mommy Sandra in the mail: awesome silver and gold threads! Well, you can imagine what that means – play time and a lot fun for me! There was absolutely no doubt that I had to try out this lovely threads immediately so I could report back about the threads to my mom.

My 14th century XL hood sample – the finished hood sample & some information about my hood pattern…

    2015/07/15

Do you remember the 14th century XL hood pattern about which I told you recently? Well, then I have some great news for you! I managed to finish the hand-sewing part of my 14th century XL hood before “A Midsummer Day’s Brawl” – an SCA event in Tennessee last weekend and I took my finished XL sample hood with me to the event for a fitting. Though my friend – for whom I drafted this pattern – and I were quite busy at the event, we managed to find some time where he was able to try on the 14th century XL sample hood and guess what! …it fits fine! *happydance*

My pink 14th century hood with long liripipe & decorative chain stitch embroidery – revisited

    2015/07/09

And now, that I already started my new 14th century hood project for a friend – about which I told you yesterday – I would like to take the chance and tell you a little bit more about my other 14th century hood projects. As some of you might remember, I already revisited my 14th century hood with daggings, long liripipe and decorative chain stitch embroidery project last year. This 14th century hood was my favorite hood until I decided to give it away to a very nice friend whom I met at an SCA event in England – at Rhaglan.

  • positive review  She was amazing to work with, flexible to my needs, answered all of my questions, and has been just incredible. Not only is she talented and interesting but is a genuinely kind person. I got a new bag with my heraldry, for which I have received many compliments, and block stamps for my household. I will commission from her again.

positive review  I ordered an octopus printed bag on October 27th. By the next day, the bag was finished, packaged up, and shipped to me. It arrived today, October 31st. Included in the package was a hand-written note detailing how to clean the bag as-needed, and a few extra small pieces of stamped fabric. The seller was very responsive to questions, and gave me some great tips as I'm going to start getting into doing fabric painting myself. I would definitely recommend purchasing from Racaire's Workshop.

  • positive review  Racaire's Workshop made me this custom X-Large Coif as seen at https://www.facebook.com/Racaires.Workshop/photos/a.148957655152826/2884613781587186/?type=3&theater The customer service including answering a ton of questions related to my'big head' and other unusual/unique requests that I made were absolutely SUPERB!!!! The only thing that surpassed my experience in ordering this coif was the pleasure I have received from wrapping it around my rather 'big head'....:) Looking forward to having the rest of my WARdrobe completed by Racaire's Worlshop!!! with Anna E.
