Description

This style of hood was worn throughout the medieval times by all ages and classes.

A hood is a great cover for the head and the shoulders from exposure to sun, cold temperatures as well as windy weather. In the medieval times a hood was often also combined with some kind of coif, hat, cap or a combination of coif and cap. In period artwork the hood is sometimes also shown worn on the top of the had as a hat. Furthermore, though not as often depicted as the other wearing styles, a hood was sometimes also worn flat laying over the shoulders – probably to protect the neck and back from sun burn. Due to personal experience I can say that this two extra wearing styles can be very usable as well as comfortable.

I printed this lovely fabric by hand using a stamp which I carved myself. This 16th century butt-licking cat stamp is based on a cat depicted in an early 16th century manuscript.
