12th century tunic pattern for my husband

    2016/02/05

After several days of drawing and re-drawing, I am finally able to present to you a new addition to my pattern collection – the (late) 12th century tunic pattern which I have been using so successfully for my husbands tunic projects till now: My very first “13th century male tunic” project My 12th century tunic for the “12th century wedding clothing project” My husbands christmas present – a “12th century grey light-wool tunic” Well, I admit it, my 12th century tunic pattern is actually based on a tunic found in a royal grave from the early 13th century. Though it can’t be said for sure, my personal opinion is that this pattern can also be counted towards the late 12th…

Instagram post 2194996410852449218_5455272668 Wooohooo! I am so excited! The new heavy fighting tabard with 12th century inspired handprinted fabric, printed with my own handcut stamps for my little workshop is finished! 🖤💛😍💛🖤 It took about 3 hours of printing and 10 hours of cutting, pinning & sewing but it was so totally worth it! All the felled and reinforced seams and borders will make sure that this fighting tabard will serve well for countless fights once it finds a good home! 🖤😍🖤 I have to admit that I am a little bit nervous to ask my sweetheart to model this fighting tabard for a picture as this are his favorite colors and he might not want to give it back... 🖤💛😉💛🖤 #racaire #racairesworkshop #printedfabric #print #handprinting #printedtextiles #sca #mysca #societyforcreativeanachronism #medieval #medievalpattern #medievalinspired #reenactment #historicalfashion #historical #historicalclothing #handmade #artist #madeinusa #madeinamerica #creative #sewing #fighting #fightinggarb #12thcentury #13thcentury #sewingproject #scafighting #black #yellow
Instagram post 2194916584539834685_5455272668 After nearly 8hours of cutting, pinning and sewing I am finally working on the last seam at the bottom border of this printed heavy fighting tabard for my workshop - now it won't take hours anymore. Maybe one more or two... Yeah, proper felled and reinforced seams take their time but they are so worth it!

Instagram post 2194202001462384193_5455272668 ...and I finally started working at the heavy fighting tabard with 12th century inspired print for my workshop - it is definitely a 2XL+ fighting tabard as I am trying to keep the pattern as complete and centered as possible. Therefore I decided to rather make it a little bit bigger to use the full roundels than cutting through them.
I have to admit that my heart already breaks a little when I just think about cutting the gores for it... but it will be fine... I am sure the end result will be worth it... 🖤💛😍💛🖤 #racaire #racairesworkshop #printing #printedfabric #print #handprinting #printedtextiles #sca #mysca #societyforcreativeanachronism #medieval #medievalinspired #reenactment #historicalfashion #historical #historicalclothing #handmade #artist #madeinusa #madeinamerica #madeinflorida #creative #sewing #fighting #fightinggarb #12thcentury #13thcentury #sewingproject #black #yellow
Instagram post 2194077878845286941_5455272668 Wooohooo! By finishing another two new hand printed bags for my shop my work pile of printed fabric just got a good bit smaller! Which also means that I will have to cut and print more fabric soon! *happydance*

As my husband can tell you, I am normally not a big fan of the color yellow but I am very excited how great this yellow print looks on the black canvas!

Instagram post 2194054854305645429_5455272668 I nearly finished this black bag with the white print of a 15th century inspired pelican but I am not quite happy with it yet. I have the feeling like I should add some more printing to it. Well, as you can see I am pretty much torn between chains, roses, stars, Fleur-de-lis,... to bad I can't just do them all... *lol*

Instagram post 2192605114779251533_5455272668 Ok, as I promised- here my Austrian Krautsalad recipe in step by step pics:
FIRST - chop/slice your cabbage very finely, salt it, work the salt into the cabbage, put a plate on top, press it down, cover it up and let it rest over night in the refrigerator.
SECOND - press out as much of the cabbage juice and salt as possible and put aside, when finished discard the juice, clean the bowl/pot and put the cabbage back.
THIRD - Mix about 1 cup of vinegar with 1-2 cup of water, bring to boil, mix in about 3 tablespoons of caraway seeds, fresh ground nutmeg & pepper, bayleaves, a little bit of sea salt and 2 and 1/2 Tablespoons of sugar (we used 2 tbsp cane sugar and 1/2 tablespoon demerara cane sugar) - carefully season to taste as different sugars can impact the sweetness differently! Depending on how salty the kraut still is after pressing it out, you want to adjust the sweetness in the pickling liquid accordingly - the more salty the kraut is, the sweeter you want it. Bring the mix to a boil.
FOURTH - pour the mixture over the cabbage and mix well, add about a half to 1 cup of vegetable oil and mix again. Taste and if it's to your liking, fill it into a big jar and store it in the refrigerator.
My Krautsalad has quite some acidity and a big jar like this normally holds up for at least 1 month or longer without any problems - that is, if it ever survives for that long!
We normally use the big jars of jalapenos after my hubby empties them - they have just the right size for 2 small kraut heads.
However, we already had to test the first batch with some pork chops and roasted cilantro-lemon pepper potatoes... I definitely have to get some sausages and buns as this Krautsalad tastes amazingly on hot dogs...

Instagram post 2192475361828979561_5455272668 I am so excited! All the sewing paid off! I have several new big blue linen coifs as well as tight fitted blue and black linen coifs! Now I just have to find out how I want to print them. Trimarian triskeles? My new 12th century stamp? Crosses? Roses? White or yellow or even gold? There are so many lovely possibilities! ...and if you don't like printed coifs - I'll make sure to leave some coifs unprinted!
💙😁🤗😁💙 Yes, I know, my shop on my page is still empty as it makes far too much fun to make new things rather than working on the computer, especially now before christmas! Therefore, if you like something I make just send me a pm here on Instagram or on Facebook!

Instagram post 2191931760283962131_5455272668 Now that I finished all of the larger blue linen coifs I was working at, it is time to move on to the slightly smaller, tight fitted blue linen coifs! As you can see my quality control is always having a watchful eye on me and my work... 💙😁🤗😁💙 #racaire #racairesworkshop #medievalgarb #medievalpatterns #medievalclothing #headwear #medievalsewing #headcovers #headcover #clothing #garb #12thcentury #13thcentury #14thcentury #mysca #sca #societyforcreativeanachronism #reenactment #historicalclothing #historicalfashion #historicalcostuming #historicalcostume #headwear #headcovers #coif #coifs #madeinusa #madeinamerica #cosplay #larp #blue #printedfabric
Instagram post 2191923357608206951_5455272668 New Kraut is coming from the fields into the stores which means that it's time for one of my husbands and my personal favorites: Austrian Krautsalat!

Yeah, it's not Sauerkraut it's Krautsalad! There is a slight difference - Sauerkraut is fermented and Krautsalad is a rather quick pickle. Nevertheless it starts very similar - kraut is chopped up as finely as possible and pretty well salted. Then you knead the sea salt into the kraut, cover it up and let it rest for some time so the salt can pull moisture out of the kraut and soften it up. I like to leave it in over night and we will continue with the next step tomorrow where my sweethearts big hands will come in very handy... 🤗😁😍😁🤗 #racaire #ConradvomSchwarzwald #cooking #cookingfromscratch #salad #salat #pickling #pickles #fastpickles #fastpickle #kraut #seasalt #salt #krautsalat #krautsalad #austrian #austrianfood #austriancooking #austrianclassics #austriancuisine #austrianinamerica #germancooking #german #germanfood #notsauerkraut #yummy #seasonal #seasonalfood #seasonalproduce
Instagram post 2191117820754896385_5455272668 After making all those black and white linen coifs recently, I decided to add some more color to my stash by making some coifs out of this lovely blue linen! I think I will soon get a chance to use my newly cut triskele stamps on them right in time for the Oldenfeld Yule event in Trimaris. 💙🤗😍🤗💙 #racaire #racairesworkshop #medievalgarb #medievalpatterns #medievalclothing #headwear #medievalsewing #headcovers #headcover #clothing #garb #12thcentury #13thcentury #14thcentury #mysca #sca #societyforcreativeanachronism #reenactment #historicalclothing #historicalfashion #historicalcostuming #historicalcostume #headwear #headcovers #coif #coifs #madeinusa #madeinamerica #cosplay #larp #warm #printedfabric
