Reinforcement of neckline stress points – my husbands yellow & blue 12th century silk tunic with keyhole neckline

    2016/06/29

It is finally happening – this is my last posting concerning the “reinforcement of neckline stress points“. 🙂 In my most recent postings I introduced you to an old hand sewing technique which helps to provide “reinforcement for neckline stress points”. I also already posted about how I used a simple variation of this old hand sewing technique for the quite special 12th century inspired neckline for my husbands new grey tunic as well as for the slit neckline of my red 12th century silk dress…

12th century tunic pattern for my husband

    2016/02/05

After several days of drawing and re-drawing, I am finally able to present to you a new addition to my pattern collection – the (late) 12th century tunic pattern which I have been using so successfully for my husbands tunic projects till now: My very first “13th century male tunic” project My 12th century tunic for the “12th century wedding clothing project” My husbands christmas present – a “12th century grey light-wool tunic” Well, I admit it, my 12th century tunic pattern is actually based on a tunic found in a royal grave from the early 13th century. Though it can’t be said for sure, my personal opinion is that this pattern can also be counted towards the late 12th…

12th century tunic for the “12th century wedding clothing project”

    2015/02/19

During the last days I was very busy working at the 12th century tunic for my husbands 12th century wedding clothing. And today I have great news for you – all the hand-sewing is done! The 12th century tunic is finished and the blue and yellow silk I used for it looks awesome! *happydance* 😀 Though there is not much time left until our 12th century wedding ceremony Gulf Wars and I am working like a maniac to finish all the 12th century wedding clothing I have on my list, I really couldn’t resist to add at least a little bit of embroidery to his 12th century tunic. Well, you know, when…

Instagram post 2192605114779251533_5455272668 Ok, as I promised- here my Austrian Krautsalad recipe in step by step pics:
FIRST - chop/slice your cabbage very finely, salt it, work the salt into the cabbage, put a plate on top, press it down, cover it up and let it rest over night in the refrigerator.
SECOND - press out as much of the cabbage juice and salt as possible and put aside, when finished discard the juice, clean the bowl/pot and put the cabbage back.
THIRD - Mix about 1 cup of vinegar with 1-2 cup of water, bring to boil, mix in about 3 tablespoons of caraway seeds, fresh ground nutmeg & pepper, bayleaves, a little bit of sea salt and 2 and 1/2 Tablespoons of sugar (we used 2 tbsp cane sugar and 1/2 tablespoon demerara cane sugar) - carefully season to taste as different sugars can impact the sweetness differently! Depending on how salty the kraut still is after pressing it out, you want to adjust the sweetness in the pickling liquid accordingly - the more salty the kraut is, the sweeter you want it. Bring the mix to a boil.
FOURTH - pour the mixture over the cabbage and mix well, add about a half to 1 cup of vegetable oil and mix again. Taste and if it's to your liking, fill it into a big jar and store it in the refrigerator.
My Krautsalad has quite some acidity and a big jar like this normally holds up for at least 1 month or longer without any problems - that is, if it ever survives for that long!
We normally use the big jars of jalapenos after my hubby empties them - they have just the right size for 2 small kraut heads.
However, we already had to test the first batch with some pork chops and roasted cilantro-lemon pepper potatoes... I definitely have to get some sausages and buns as this Krautsalad tastes amazingly on hot dogs...

Instagram post 2192475361828979561_5455272668 I am so excited! All the sewing paid off! I have several new big blue linen coifs as well as tight fitted blue and black linen coifs! Now I just have to find out how I want to print them. Trimarian triskeles? My new 12th century stamp? Crosses? Roses? White or yellow or even gold? There are so many lovely possibilities! ...and if you don't like printed coifs - I'll make sure to leave some coifs unprinted!
💙😁🤗😁💙 Yes, I know, my shop on my page is still empty as it makes far too much fun to make new things rather than working on the computer, especially now before christmas! Therefore, if you like something I make just send me a pm here on Instagram or on Facebook!

Instagram post 2191923357608206951_5455272668 New Kraut is coming from the fields into the stores which means that it's time for one of my husbands and my personal favorites: Austrian Krautsalat!

Yeah, it's not Sauerkraut it's Krautsalad! There is a slight difference - Sauerkraut is fermented and Krautsalad is a rather quick pickle. Nevertheless it starts very similar - kraut is chopped up as finely as possible and pretty well salted. Then you knead the sea salt into the kraut, cover it up and let it rest for some time so the salt can pull moisture out of the kraut and soften it up. I like to leave it in over night and we will continue with the next step tomorrow where my sweethearts big hands will come in very handy... 🤗😁😍😁🤗 #racaire #ConradvomSchwarzwald #cooking #cookingfromscratch #salad #salat #pickling #pickles #fastpickles #fastpickle #kraut #seasalt #salt #krautsalat #krautsalad #austrian #austrianfood #austriancooking #austrianclassics #austriancuisine #austrianinamerica #germancooking #german #germanfood #notsauerkraut #yummy #seasonal #seasonalfood #seasonalproduce
Instagram post 2191117820754896385_5455272668 After making all those black and white linen coifs recently, I decided to add some more color to my stash by making some coifs out of this lovely blue linen! I think I will soon get a chance to use my newly cut triskele stamps on them right in time for the Oldenfeld Yule event in Trimaris. 💙🤗😍🤗💙 #racaire #racairesworkshop #medievalgarb #medievalpatterns #medievalclothing #headwear #medievalsewing #headcovers #headcover #clothing #garb #12thcentury #13thcentury #14thcentury #mysca #sca #societyforcreativeanachronism #reenactment #historicalclothing #historicalfashion #historicalcostuming #historicalcostume #headwear #headcovers #coif #coifs #madeinusa #madeinamerica #cosplay #larp #warm #printedfabric

Instagram post 2190350351421159493_5455272668 This photo shows you the very first two roundels and the very first story on my 14th century based and inspired Weiberlisten (tricks of the ladies/Malterer) wallhanging!
It shows the Biblical story of Samson and Delilah. First you can see how Samson defeats a lion with his bare hands and then is defeated himself, when Delilah takes his strength away by cutting his hair while he sleeps.
This story as well as all the other stories shown at the Weinerlisten/tricks of the ladies tapestry were very popular during the middle ages. They all show how women can have power over men and/or trick them. It is unclear if this tapestry was made in order to serve as a warning to men about the tricks of the ladies or if it was demonstrating the increasing power and self-confidence of women in this century.
💛🦁😍🦁💛 It took me about 4 years to complete this wallhanging which was completely embroidered by hand in the medieval 14th century Klosterstich (cloister stitch) technique. The wallhanging was executed with the wonderful plant died threads from Renaissance Dyeing!

I used a two colored, double faced and very soft, cosy fabric for this tunic. The inside seams are flat felled seams finished by hand. The neckline, cuffs and bottom seam are also hand finished.
